Originally from West Africa, Akee is the national fruit of Jamaica, and a staple in Jamaican cuisine.

Something unusual to add to your collection, Akee needs to be treated with caution as the skin, unripe fruit and seeds are toxic. Fruit should only be eaten when fully ripe and care should be taken to closely follow instructions when cooking with the ripe arils.
