Golden lotus banana, Musa lasiocarpa, sometimes called Chines dwarf banana, is native to the mountains of China, and is relatively hardy.  It has a beautiful yellow flower which lasts for months, and is an asset to your subtropical garden.  Its ornamental, with beautiful paddle shaped leaves, and doesnt produce edible bananas.
 
Position
Grow Musa lasiocarpa in moist but well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Protect with a thick mulch to cover the roots over winter.  Will also grow happily in a large pot.
 
Care 
As with all musa/bananas, the nutritional requirements are high and plants will benefit from an effective fertiliser programme. All banana plants require regular watering during hot spells.
