Originally native to South America, this is a great addition to your subtropical fruit tree collection. Slow growing in the early years, this is an attractive and bountiful tree which will provide plenty of fruit. The leaves change colour with temperature changes, and new growth is a lovely coppery colour. Three year old trees, with strongly established root systems.
Grape-like berry fruit grows from the trunk, from delicate white flowers.
Position Under the right conditions, jaboticaba can grow to 8m or more although this will take a very long time in Aotearoa. Best conditions for growth are the same as their citrus cousins, they need a sunny, well drained site with plenty of water and organic matter.
Care Protect from frost and wind. Does not like wet cold roots.
