Painted Spiral Ginger (Costus Pictus) is native to Mexico, and has a beautiful yellow flower, with rich red stripes.  It's traditionally associated with a range of medicinal uses, 
 
 
Will grow well in a pot. or if you're in the warmer parts of Aotearoa, will also grow outside.  A beautiful and interesting addition to your subtropical garden.  
 
 
Position 
Will do best in a sunny and warm location that is sheltered from the wind and cold. Needs shelter from frost.
