This is astringent Japanese persimmon, that produces sweet, seedless (or near seedless) fruit.  Once picked, the fruit needs to be left to ripen until very very soft and a deep orange red.

Fruit can either be used for baking, or made into hoshigaki, a traditional Japanese dried fruit treat.

Persimmon flowers may have male and female organs at the same time, or only male. To maximise chances of successful fruiting, you may be better with two plants.

Grows to 4m+

Fruit

Fruit should be eaten when very soft, and when a bright red/orange colour. When you press the skin of a ripe fruit, it should feel very very soft and squishy.

Position

Will do best in a sunny and warm location that is sheltered from the wind and cold drafts. Can tolerate light frosts when mature.

Care

Protect from frost when young. Will not cope well with prolonged drought.

All plants are in a 3.5l recycleable plastic pot, unless shown otherwise.
