A tropical variety of the ice cream bean tree, with seeds legally sourced from Far North Queensland. And yes, we've seen the beans - and they really are 1m long, and longer. This will need a warm and sheltered spot, and is unlikely to cope with cold wind and frost.
This is a large fast growing tree with spreading branches, and attractive flowers. A nitrogen fixing tree, and a good choice to interplant with other subtropicals. Can be used for chop and drop mulching. It produces super large and extra long velvety pods which contain a sweet pulp that looks like candy floss and tastes like vanilla icecream
Self fertile
Grows to 10m+
Fruit
Fruit (bean pods) can be expected from 3-4 years.
Position
Will do best in a very sunny and warm location that is sheltered from the wind when young. As this is a tropical plant, not frost tolerant.
Care
Protect from cold winds and frost, this is likely to kill the plant.
All plants are in a 3.5l recycleable plastic pot, unless shown otherwise.
